The new rules entered into force six months after the law was sanctioned, on June 25, 2025.<\/p><p data-start=\"1381\" data-end=\"1552\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>New legal definition:<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ul data-start=\"1584\" data-end=\"1687\"><li data-start=\"1584\" data-end=\"1637\"><p data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1637\"><strong data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1603\">Daytime work:<\/strong> from <strong data-start=\"1609\" data-end=\"1635\">6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.<\/strong><\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1638\" data-end=\"1687\"><p data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1687\"><strong data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1655\">Night work:<\/strong> from <strong data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1687\">7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.<\/strong><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1790\">Previously, night work started at <strong data-start=\"1723\" data-end=\"1736\">9:00 p.m.<\/strong>. The reform advances the start time by two hours.<\/p><p data-start=\"1792\" data-end=\"1869\">As a result, more working hours now qualify for the night work surcharge.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-11f7d19 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"11f7d19\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Night Work Surcharge: What Employers Must Pay<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85f2e0a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"85f2e0a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1930\" data-end=\"2089\">Night work in Colombia carries a <strong data-start=\"1963\" data-end=\"1980\">35% surcharge<\/strong> over the ordinary hourly wage. This surcharge now applies from <strong data-start=\"2044\" data-end=\"2064\">7:00 p.m. onward<\/strong> on regular working days.<\/p><p data-start=\"2091\" data-end=\"2237\">To calculate it correctly, employers must first determine the ordinary hourly rate. Then, they must apply the 35% premium to each qualifying hour.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-92d1470 elementor-widget data-start=\"2635\" data-end=\"2666\">Sundays and public holidays<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"2669\" data-end=\"2708\">For these days, employers must combine:<\/p><ul data-start=\"2710\" data-end=\"2781\"><li data-start=\"2710\" data-end=\"2743\"><p data-start=\"2712\" data-end=\"2743\"><strong data-start=\"2712\" data-end=\"2737\">Night work surcharge:<\/strong> 35%<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2744\" data-end=\"2781\"><p data-start=\"2746\" data-end=\"2781\"><strong data-start=\"2746\" data-end=\"2775\">Sunday\/holiday surcharge:<\/strong> 80%<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2783\" data-end=\"2926\">Together, they result in a <strong data-start=\"2810\" data-end=\"2837\">total surcharge of 115%<\/strong> over the ordinary hourly wage for night hours worked between <strong data-start=\"2899\" data-end=\"2926\">7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"2928\" data-end=\"3002\">This significantly increases labor costs for evening and night
